Scotiabank Community Program
In June 2009, our Wickham’s Cay branch partnered with the National AIDS Programme and the Ministry of Health and Social Development to help host Regional Testing Day to promote health and HIV prevention.
This was the first time the branch hosted this service, and 78 people were tested. Honourable Dancia Penn of the Ministry of Health and Social Development said she hopes that the awareness created through Regional Testing Day will result in better access to existing HIV testing and counselling services offered by the Ministry.
There are already dozens of people being treated for HIV in the British Virgin Islands. Local Scotiabank branch manager Lynette Smith applauded the great commitment that Scotiabank has made to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS as a preventative method for the transfer of the disease, saying, “While there is yet no cure for this disease, prevention and education are cornerstones of HIV/AIDS awareness.”
Regional Testing Day was established as a joint project between Scotiabank and the Caribbean Broadcast Media Partnership on HIV and AIDS.
